Who Opportunity Home Is
Opportunity Home San Antonio is the local Public Housing Authority (PHA), formerly known as SAHA. They run:
- Public housing communities across San Antonio
- Housing Choice Voucher program
- Mixed-finance developments with LIHTC or other funding
- Various homeownership and supportive programs
The rename from SAHA to Opportunity Home doesn’t change the underlying programs; the organization is the same.
Community Types in the Portfolio
Public housing: rent set as ~30% of adjusted gross income. Government-owned.
Mixed-income developments: newer communities with a blend of subsidized, LIHTC-restricted, and market-rate units in the same building. Rent depends on the specific unit’s classification.
RAD-converted communities: former public housing now under project-based Section 8 or LIHTC financing. Rent structure varies.
How to Apply
Direct application through Opportunity Home. Waitlists open with announced windows. Preferences (veteran, disability, elderly, homelessness, local resident) can move you up.
